You will have access to a variety of very interesting articles such as: "Should Video Gaming be a Sport?" "Predicting Your Playlist" and many more. Take some time to explore the site. You will notice that you can have the text read aloud, and the words are highlighted as you hear them being read. You can also choose the Lexile that is closest to yours. I guarantee that you will find an article that interests you! REMEMBER the only way to become a better reader is to READ! First, I want to say thank you to all of the parents/guardians for being so supportive this year. To all of my students, you KNOW I will miss seeing your beautiful faces while schools are closed, but I am confident that each of you will still be able to meet or exceed all of the personal/class goals and expectations we set in the beginning of the year. Here is what you can do at home to keep working on increasing your Lexile level: 1. Log onto the READ 180U program https://h100004008.education.scholastic.com 3 times per week spend 20 minutes on the Student Application (the red picture with the man and the bicycle) just like we do in class. **Only available Mon-Fri 7 am-6 pm 2. Independent Read 3 times per week for at least 20 minutes (Many of you borrowed the book you are reading in class to take home to finish.) *You can also log on to the READ 180U program to access eBooks and eReads (the blue box that says Independent Reading) You can even do the quickwrites/organizers and take the quizzes just like we do at school in the little folder that says "activities" under the support tab at the bottom of the screen. 3. Practice assessment strategies pages (you pick which ones you want to do) & vocabulary. com 3 times per week for 20 minutes. Don't forget you can have fun learning new vocabulary with vocabulary.com. (Most students have already set up an account. If you haven't, click the link then the green sign up button on the upper left corner of the screen.) One of you can start a vocabulary jam and invite classmates to join like some of you did in class. Look up the list "100 Words Every Middle Schooler Should Know" practice the words first to build your points. Then, do the jam! Rewards for winning teams that bring me a picture of their points :) Email me [email protected] with any questions or concerns. I will be online from 10:30am-12pm Monday-Friday. If you would like to join our class Remind101 you can text @4688de2 to 81010 to be added. This will allow us to communicate via text. Remember to continue to visit this blog for updates. Stay safe! :)
I am asking my students to sign up for a free account at vocabulary.com
*If you had me last year, you already have access. (email: use your school email Password: lunch number) Understanding vocabulary is essential for comprehension. Vocabulary.com is a fun way for students to become familiar with new vocabulary. We will be spending sometime in class learning how to navigate the website. I will be encouraging my students to spend a portion of their daily "online" time mastering the words on the "100 words every middle schooler should know" list to help them better comprehend grade level texts. (It is also a great resource for summertime learning!) Please, Please, Please... Read a minimum of 20 minutes each night. |
