Ms. Cummings
We started our second workshop the week before we went on break.
8th grade- Workshop 6 "No Ordinary Sport" Students are reading a variety of texts focusing on athletes who perform daredevil stunts. These athletes test their emotional and endurance while free climbing, participating in dangerous/extreme sports, and competing in tough obstacle courses. Students will deepen their understanding as they practice comprehension skills and think critically about the focus question: What can happen when athletes challenge themselves in extreme ways? 7th grade- Workshop 5 "Contagions" Focus question: How do scientists meet the urgent need to contain killer disease? We will find out about the flu epidemic of the 1900's that killed millions of people. We will take an in depth look into some of history's most deadly disease outbreaks. We will also learn what it takes to combat disease epidemics. 6th grade- Workshop 4 "The Hunt for Lincoln's Killer" Focus question: How does a country respond to the death of a leader? Students watched an anchor video to build background knowledge of John Wilkes Booth and the assassination of President Lincoln. We will be reading a variety of text as we deepen our comprehension by analyzing and explaining the interactions between people, ideas, and events we read about. Remember to READ 20 minutes daily! |
